Dundee was founded by a group of pioneer families and incorporated in 1895. It was named by William Reid who came from Dundee, Scotland. Located just south of Newberg and surrounded by vast agricultural land; Dundee was originally known for growing and processing hazelnuts (filberts). This crop continues to play an important part of the area’s economy.
Today, Dundee is the heart-beat of the Oregon wine industry. In the late 60’s it was discovered that the Red Hills of Dundee have a soil composition similar to that of the Bordeaux region in France. Since that time The Dundee Hills have become home to over twenty five wineries (with some 1,264 acres of vineyards), and has been recognized and designated as a unique viticulture appellation (special soil and climate). Wines from the Dundee area have won numerous medals and acquired acclaim by connoisseurs from around the world.
Come and see why we love this grown-up small town and take advantage of the limited opportunity (not unlike Napa 20 years ago!) to live in Vineyard Estates and celebrate home!
